1. Introduction
ScanBite (“we”, “us”, “our”) is operated by Alright Tech. This Privacy Policy explains what information the ScanBite mobile application (the “App”) collects, how we use it, and your choices. By using the App, you agree to this policy.
2. Information we collect
- Account information: If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile identifier from Google (via Firebase Authentication).
- Food & wellness data: Meal photos, AI analysis results (calories, macros, dish names), manual edits, scan history, daily goals, and optional premium wellness logs (hydration, sleep, mood) stored on your device and, if enabled, in cloud backup.
- Correction learning (optional): If you opt in when editing a meal, anonymized dish names and corrected nutrition values may be stored locally on your device to improve future estimates for similar dishes. This data is not linked to your identity for analytics export unless you explicitly enable cloud sync of app data.
- Device & usage: App settings (language, theme), scan limits, subscription/trial status, notification preferences, and diagnostic logs needed to operate the App.
- Payment information: Subscriptions are processed by Stripe. We do not store full card numbers on our servers; Stripe handles payment data under its own privacy policy.
- Advertising: If ads are enabled, Google AdMob may collect device advertising identifiers and usage data per Google’s policies. Rewarded ads are optional and used to grant bonus scans.
3. How we use information
- Provide AI food scanning, nutrition estimates, and meal history
- Sync and back up data for premium subscribers (Firebase)
- Process subscriptions and free-trial eligibility
- Send optional push notifications (meal reminders, wellness)
- Improve accuracy via optional local correction learning
- Prevent abuse (scan limits, fraud prevention)
- Comply with legal obligations
4. AI processing & third parties
Food images and related prompts may be sent to Groq (vision/language AI) for analysis. We use Firebase (Google) for authentication, cloud backup, messaging, and remote configuration. These providers process data under their own terms and may use servers in various countries.
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with service providers necessary to operate the App, when you consent, or when required by law.
5. Data storage & retention
Core meal history is stored locally in SQLite on your device. Premium cloud backup copies encrypted app data to Firebase Firestore/Storage when you enable backup and sign in. You may delete local data in Settings → Clear All Data. Cloud data can be removed by deleting your account or contacting us.
6. Your rights & choices
- Access, edit, or delete meals and wellness logs in the App
- Opt out of correction learning in the meal edit screen
- Disable notifications in system or app settings
- Sign out of Google / disable cloud backup
- Permanently delete your account in Settings → Delete Account (when signed in), or follow our web instructions
- Verify deletion status at scanbite.app/verify-deletion
- Request data deletion by emailing info@alrighttech.com
Depending on your region (GDPR, CCPA, etc.), you may have additional rights to access, portability, or objection. Contact us to exercise these rights.
7. Children
The App is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Contact us if you believe a child has provided data.
8. Security
We use industry-standard measures including HTTPS, Firebase security rules, and local device storage. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
9. International transfers
If you use the App outside your home country, your information may be processed in countries where our service providers operate, including the United States.
10. Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy. We will revise the “Last updated” date and, where required, notify you in the App. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated policy.
